Section 8 housing, along with other bad decisions caused this. Most middle-class residents moved out and low-income residents increased. Since then we lost almost all of our major industry and all but a handful of downtown stores. The borough reached its economic zenith about 1960 and continued to prosper through the 1970s. Over a 250-year period, Pottstown had evolved into one of the loveliest towns in Pa.
The tour included a simulated briefing of an aerial attack plan, a chance to don a fighter pilot’s gear and an escape room experience and much more. The veteran volunteers were very eager to share their knowledge and their passion for what they were doing was obvious.
We recently visited the General Spaatz World War II museum in Boyertown honoring all branches of the military.
